Saturday, July 23, 2005 Why wishing "happy belated birthday" is the safest... In order to understand the above statement, you have to understand 'Probability' first. Now, let's delve into the derivation...... In a year, there are approximately 365 day, so the probability that you are able to wish a person a happy birthday on that day itself is (1/365). However, there are 3600s in an hour and there are 24 hours in a day, so the probability of wishing a person a sucessful happy birthday would thus be (1/365)(1/24)(1/3600). For practical purposes, the record of time doesn't go beyond the 'second'. Imagine if it goes up till the nanosecond! This would probably spark a debate on when should the time of birth be recorded. As you can see, to wish a person a sucessful birthday already has such a low probability, thus wishing a happy belated birthday is the safest. ;) |
